KTV clubs range from budget-friendly spots to luxurious venues with themed rooms and premium amenities, catering to all tastes and budgets.
Address: Linsen North Road
Linsen North Road is most famous in Taipei as being an unofficial red light districts. This street has LinsenBei Ji?diàn which is a bar operating small KTV rooms. The site has women workers (Ji?diàn Xi?oji?) who spend their time with mainly men who will sing karaoke, drink and may engage further in other sexual activities if previously specified.
These sites operate after working hours till early morning hours. The women are beautifully dressed. The newer employed women drink heavily but this means they are less likely to be tipped and makes their work much harder. The KTV women who work here longer do not drink as much as the customers tend to relax after they have had their own drinks. A typical woman who works here earns around NT$100,000 to NT$200,000 ($3-6000USD) in a month if they choose to work five nights a week. The average monthly income in Taiwan is $1000USD a month. Some of this income goes to spending money on makeup or clothes for the job.
Some Ji?diànthe women take their clothes off, they may be fully or partially nude. They dance with their clientele but do not exchange money for sexual services. Some places do not allow the customers to touch the women. Though there are many KTV locations which do allow the exchange of money for sexual services.
Typical Customers and Communication
The most common customers are local Taiwanese or Japanese businessmen. They mainly discuss professional work rather than spending too much time with the girls. If you don’t speak strong Mandarin, you may not be given entry as communication breakdowns can cause problems, especially if you are looking for more services. You don’t have to be a great singer; just have fun at your own pace. The women check up on customers regularly to ensure they are okay.
Role of Male Workers (Shàoyé)
Karaoke Tay Vin (KTV) bars hire male workers known as “Shàoyé” who perform duties like keeping the place clean and ensuring the karaoke microphone and sound system are in working order. They bring food or drinks to the private room and guide customers to other areas in the KTV. If the women are nude, the Shàoyé are not allowed to see them and do not check up on the customers. Shàoyé rely on tips from customers. Some nights they receive good tips, while other times they get nothing.
Group Requirements and Costs
If you are in a group, there is normally a minimum number of girls you have to hire to spend time with in one of the lounges. On top of paying for the girls, you also pay for drinks and food. The average group spends around NT$20,000 per hour. When you walk in, you must purchase a jug or bottle of alcohol priced at around NT$1,000 ($35 USD). You may also be asked to buy one of the women a drink for around NT$200 to NT$300 ($7 to $10 USD).
Booth Prices and Services
Booth prices for two hours of usage are around NT$3,000 to NT$4,000 ($110 to $145 USD). This is affordable compared to Gold Money Jaguar, which charges around $330 USD for two hours. Different women may perform different services, so it’s a good idea to talk to them beforehand.
Types of KTV Women
There are three different types of KTV women:
- Class A: Sexy women who will spend their time talking, teasing, and singing. They may take their top off if you're fortunate.
- Class B: Not as hot as Class A but provide a large range of services. They will likely be totally exposed after an hour and can be exceptionally fun and sociable. Depending on how nice you are, you may even get a sensual caress or a blow job.
- Class C: Essentially strippers, some may be older and less attractive. They are very willing to please and may engage in sexual relations with you.
Choosing the Right Class
Most folks recommend going for Class B as a good compromise. You cannot ask the KTV for a “decent young Class B lady” directly as they won’t understand. If you go with someone who has a Taiwanese background, they can arrange what you need. KTV ladies require polite and charming interactions, unlike street prostitutes’ pimps.
Lady KTV and Additional Services
At a Lady KTV, you can find a woman who can leave with you to a local hotel, motel, or inn. Three hours is priced around NT$6,000 to NT$10,000 ($220 to $330 USD). You can also go to a local bar earlier in the night to drink and meet locals who may accompany you to a private setting. The women may stay with you for a few hours or until morning. Remember, if you hire a hotel room, it can cost around NT$2,000 to NT$3,000 ($70 to $110 USD) for a night.
If you go to a strip club you can have multiple different women spending some time with you giving you lap dances through the night though if you pick a KTV Lady you will have one women giving you special time throughout the time paid for your sexual services.
A Typical Evening at a KTV Club
A typical evening at a KTV club involves friends or colleagues gathering in a private room, selecting songs from an extensive library that includes hits in multiple languages, and singing along with lyrics displayed on a screen. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, making KTV a popular choice for celebrations, social outings, and even business entertainment.
Golden Jaguay KTV Club
Address: Taiwan Blvd. (past Taichung Port Rd.) in Taichung City,
The Golden Jaguar Club is the most famous in Taipei, Taiwan. It has made healdlines in the local media many times because of its popularity. The Taiwan News in February 2017 when the election for the Kuomintang Chairmanship got strange when a senior party official recruited 600 KTV hostesses from the Golden Jaguar and High Pie KTV clubs to apply for memberships to the party.
There are more hostesses at the Golden Jaguar Club than any other and because of the large selection of choice and how busy the club can be prices can be higher than other venues.
Escorts in KTV Clubs
In addition to providing a venue for karaoke, some KTV clubs also serve as discreet locations where escort services operate. Escorts may frequent these establishments, offering companionship to patrons seeking more than just a singing session. This aspect of KTV culture adds a layer of complexity to the nightlife scene, blending entertainment with adult services.
Booking Escort Services
Clients interested in such services often book a private room and request the company of an escort through the club’s management or external agencies. These interactions are typically conducted with a high level of discretion to ensure privacy and comfort for both parties. The escorts provide not only companionship but may also enhance the karaoke experience by joining in the singing and social activities.
Dual Function of KTV Clubs
While not all KTV clubs in Taiwan are associated with escort services, those that are often have established systems to maintain confidentiality and cater to the specific needs of their clientele. This dual function of KTV clubs highlights the diverse nature of Taiwan’s nightlife, offering something for everyone, whether they are looking for a night of musical fun or more personalized entertainment.
